Charles Richard  Warren
Charles Richard Warren, age 94 of Bonner Springs, Kansas, passed away Feb. 4th, 2018 at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa. A celebration of his life will be held at the Lake of the Forest Club House, Sunday March 11, from 1 – 5 pm.
Charlie Warren was born Aug 1st, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas. He attended Wyandotte High School, as a member of the greatest generation, he immediately enlisted in the Army Air Corp after graduation, 1942. He was an engineer/tail gunner on a B-17. On his 7th mission his plane was shot down over enemy occupied Europe (Belgium). Rescued by members of the French Resistance in Belgium, for 8 months he became part of their organization. Respect and friendship continued with the families who protected him throughout his lifetime.
His second deployment took him to Berlin, where he helped with the reorganization of Germany. Married in 1947 to Margaret McMillan, he returned to the states to settle in Detroit, eventually returning to his home of Kansas City Kansas.
He joined AFEE’s (Air Force Evade and Escape Society) traveling annually to the meetings, meeting and sharing experiences. Charlie and Margaret were also members of Lake of the Forest Club, from 1955 – 2004, where they raised their three daughters and loved participating in the many actives the lake provided.
Charlie remembered every person he ever met, and they remembered him for his dynamic and fun-loving personality. He is preceded in death by Margaret, his wife of 68 years. Survived by daughters Shayne Warren, Shelley Warren, Heather Warren (Don Scarpa), granddaughter Emily Warren, great grandson Lucas, family and many friends. He will be missed.
Donations will be accepted at the celebration of life for a memorial plaque and tree at Lake of the Forest.
